Sleep apnea therapy reimagined through human-centered systems design

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) has long been the clinical standard for treating obstructive sleep apnea, yet patient adoption has remained limited by discomfort, bulk, and social stigma.

Apnicure set out to redefine treatment through an entirely new therapeutic approach: a negative-pressure therapy designed around comfort, usability, and long-term patient acceptance. Delivering that vision demanded a cohesive and highly adoptable product ecosystem integrating an oral appliance, bedside console, patient interactions, and clinical workflows into a unified experience.

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers and company founders, I helped evolve the product vision from early concept exploration into a complete production-oriented system. My role spanned industrial design leadership, human factors, interaction design, iterative prototyping, CAD direction, and close engineering collaboration throughout development.

The result was a thoughtfully integrated medical system that demonstrated how systems-level design could improve usability, patient comfort, and acceptance while helping establish an entirely new category of sleep apnea therapy.

The following materials are drawn from the original development program and are presented as project artifacts. They document the systems thinking, multidisciplinary collaboration, and product development processes that continue to shape my approach to complex medical device design today.
